Bugatti EB110 Sport Competizione leads Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance


The 2024 Monterey Car Week kicked off with the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance on August 15. The convoy was led by a rather Bugatti, whose journey we’ve been following ever since it left Europe earlier this month – the one-off EB110 Sport Competizione.

The big event though, is on Sunday, when this special car will go up against some heavyweights for top honors at the Concours d’Elegance. This year, the organizers have introduced a new class of BPR and FIA GT race cars from the 1990s. The EB110 is competing in this class, which also includes a McLaren F1, Ferrari F40, Mercedes CLK GTR and a Porsche 911 GT1.

Apart from being a one-off, what makes the EB110 Sport Competizione so special is that it’s an actual race car that was already road-legal in period. It has a bespoke exterior, making it slightly wider than the stock EB110 SS road car. The wider wheel wells occupy massive BBS rims, while the rear features a fixed dual-plane spoiler.

Built around chassis no. ZA9BB02E0SCD39044, the EB110 Sport Competizione was raced by the Monaco Racing Team in the IMSA championship and in the BPR series. It was driven by Derek Hill and ex-Formula 1 driver Patrick Tambay at Watkins Glen, Sears Point and the Suzuki 1000 km.

The EB110 SC also entered the Le Mans 24 Hours. However, a crash during pre-qualifying meant it was ruled out from competing in the main race. It has had a storied past and is certainly among the top contenders this year.

We still believe that the EB110 is the one to watch out for if you look at supercars as an investment. As a friend of ours rightly put it, “…imagine – just for a minute – what will happen to EB110 values, if the Bugatti EB110 Sport Competizione ‚IMSA‘ would win its class – against the McLaren F1 – on Sunday!!!”
