The View‘s Alyssa Farah Griffin stood up for NASA administrator Jared Isaacman after President Trump poked fun at his ears during a White House press conference in honor of the Artemis space mission.
The View aired a clip from the press conference during the Thursday (April 30) broadcast, highlighting a moment in which Trump claimed he was likely just as qualified to travel to space as the crew members. But at another awkward moment during the press conference, President Trump poked fun at Isaacman’s ears when a member of the press asked if they plan on relocating the NASA headquarters.
“Well, the best man to tell you that is the man standing right over here,” Trump responded before turning to Isaacman and adding, “You heard that question with those beautiful ears of yours? He’s got great hearing, you know. He’s got super hearing.”
Isaacman attempted to to take the joke in stride, firing back, “Trick of the trade, sir.”
On The View, Griffin cooed in sympathy for Isaacman. After her co-hosts took turns roasting Trump’s aptitude for traveling to space, Griffin took a moment to comfort the NASA administrator.
“And there’s nothing wrong with big ears, NASA administrator,” she said as she stuck her own ears out. “It’s okay, I hear you and I see you.”
The gesture made Whoopi Goldberg and Sara Haines laugh as they returned the gesture to Griffin.
“I hear you and I see you as well,” Goldberg said with a laugh as she sent the segment to commercial.
Goldberg brutally roasted Trump for claiming he “would have no trouble” qualifying. “Is the president allowed to go up in one of these missions?” he asked Isaacman at one point.
“You could go up there if they left you up there,” Goldberg dryly responded as she introduced the segment. “You can drive the rover around, you drive around on the moon in the rover. But I don’t think you would really qualify.”
As she rattled off a list of qualifications you need in order to travel to space, Goldberg added, “Be within the ages of 30 and 55, – well, you know you ain’t going nowhere.”
Joy Behar also recommended Trump take Vice President J.D. Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson and head for Jupiter since it’s further from Earth than the Moon.
