Sebastien Bourdais & Cadillac set new IMSA lap record at Laguna Seca

Sebastien Bourdais set a new lap record at the Laguna Seca racetrack during qualifying of the 2024 Motul Course De Monterey. Bourdais grabbed pole position by setting a lap time of 1 min 12.44 seconds in his #01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac V-Series.R.

Bourdais’ fastest lap was 1.5 seconds quicker than the all-time lap record of 1 min 13.924 seconds set by Ricky Taylor in a Daytona Prototype International (DPi)-class car in 2022. The French driver lapped the 2.238 mile circuit at an average speed of 111.212 mph.

After grabbing pole position Bourdais said that his lap could’ve been even faster had he not made a mistake. He said that a small mistake at the famous Corkscrew almost ruined his lap.

Derani and Aitken in the Whelen Cadillac Racing in the V-Series.R secured second place, while BMW’s Krohn and Phillip Eng in the BMW M Hybrid V8 will line up in third place on the grid alongside Penske Motorsport’s Porsche 963.
