Sabrina Ionescu helps Liberty secure win over Angel Reese, Sky

Sabrina Ionescu came alive just when needed for the Liberty.

Only ahead by two points in the fourth quarter, she sprinted up the court in transition to stop for a 3-pointer.

She continued her tear by making foul shots after driving into the paint.

Ionescu also dished out four assists and gave the Liberty their largest lead — nine points — with a 3 with under four minutes to go in the fourth.

Sparked by a 3-pointer to start the third, the star guard made up for a scoreless first quarter and rallied to put together another 21-point night to carry the Liberty through a 91-76 win over the Sky on Thursday night at Barclays Center.

Without Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, who is out with a right knee injury for the second consecutive game and remains day-to-day, Leonie Fiebich also had a notable night.

She joined the starting five and started off her role with a 3 to open the game and finished with a career-high 13 points — including four 3-pointers — on the night.

Breanna Stewart also contributed 19 points and Jonquel Jones added 18 in what was a tough night for them on the boards against Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.

The Liberty trailed by as many as 13 in the opening half as the Sky started to dominate the paint — 56 points to the Liberty’s 28.

But New York’s 13 treys made up for it on the perimeter.

Chennedy Carter, the Sky’s star, found gaps for easy baskets while Reese — who recorded her 15th consecutive double-double — backed down Nyara Sabally to shoot over her, only to grab the rebound for a second-chance points.

Sabally entered in her first game on limited minutes since May after a back injury, scoring two points.

Carter finished with 22 points while Reese added 10 with 10 boards.

However, the Liberty fought their way back in the second half to compete for the lead for the remainder of the game, which ended up being their 15th victory across the past 17 games.

After two timeouts in the second quarter, the Liberty seemed to regroup and orchestrated a 9-0 run, ending with a Fiebich feed to Jones inside for two points, to force a Chicago timeout with the game back within four points.

After a foul on Carter to make one free throw, Stewart found Fiebich on the perimeter for three points.

Ionescu later scored her first basket after going 0-for-7 with a game-tying floater with 1:43 left in the opening half after a steal by Kayla Thornton.

In the final seconds of the half, Carter sprinted into the paint, but Jones blocked her shot to keep the Liberty’s deficit at just two entering the break.
