The McLaren W1 is here! McLaren calls it “the real supercar,” which carries forward the legacy of the legendary F1 and the iconic P1.
Images of the W1 had leaked online a few hours ago, and we were quite disappointed with its design. Thankfully, those were early concepts, as the final product looks much more appealing.
The W1 still looks like a typical McLaren with its complex curves and aero surfaces. The front features massive intakes and what appears to be an S-duct. It has sleek LED headlamps with a new light signature.
Moving to the side, the W1 gets F1-inspired barge boards channelling air into the large intake. The rear of the cars looks absolutely wild with an enormous diffuser, a central exhaust, and an active rear wing that extends by 300 mm to produce up to 1000 kg of downforce.
In true supercar fashion, the McLaren W1 has gullwing doors and a minimalistic interior. There’s a central touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. While the seats are fixed in place, the steering and pedal box can be adjusted.
At the heart of the W1 is an all-new 4.0-liter V8 hybrid powertrain that produces 1258 hp and 988 lb-ft of torque, with a redline at 9200 rpm. This makes it McLaren’s most powerful and highest-revving road car powertrain ever and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The W1 weighs just 1399 kg, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 911 PS per tonne. The result is 0-124 mph in just 5.8 seconds! New W1 is fastest-accelerating and fastest-lapping road-legal McLaren ever.
McLaren is building 399 examples of the W1 and all have already been allocated. The price tag on one of these is approximately $2.6 million!
