Longbow EV sports cars targeted to weigh under 2,200 pounds

  • The U.K.’s Longbow has revealed the Speedster and Roadster
  • The lightweight electric sports cars are targeted to enter production in 2026
  • Pricing will start from about $84,300

Lightweight and electric vehicles don’t normally go together, but a British startup plans to change that.

The company, Longbow, provided the first details on Wednesday about the Speedster and Roadster—two electric sports cars currently in development.

Taking inspiration from iconic British sports cars like the Jaguar E-Type and Lotus Elise, these two-seaters are targeted for launch in 2026. Longbow said each will weigh less than 2,200 pounds, ensuring a driving experience unlike any other regular production EV.

The Speedster offers a pure open-top design, while the Roadster features an enclosed cabin. Both models are built on a bespoke aluminum chassis that Longbow said is optimized for low weight and high stiffness. Because a significant amount of weight is already saved with the chassis, other components—such as the motors and batteries—can also be lighter, according to the company.

Full specifications haven’t been released, but Longbow said the Speedster, which will launch first, should deliver 0-62 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds and provide enough battery capacity for 275 miles of range on the WLTP cycle used overseas. A lower range estimate would result when using the stricter EPA cycle. For the Roadster, Longbow quotes 3.6 seconds and 280 miles.

Longbow’s founders have previously worked for leading EV companies like Tesla, Lucid, and BYD, while the company’s headquarters in the U.K. position it close to many engineering firms and suppliers associated with Formula E and Formula 1. Longbow also plans to manufacture its cars in the U.K., with the Speedster limited to just 150 units. The Roadster will have higher production volumes, though Longbow hasn’t disclosed exact numbers. The first examples of both cars will be special Luminary 1st Edition and Autograph Edition models.

Reservations are open and pricing for the Speedster is set to start at 84,995 British pounds (approximately $110,200), while the Roadster will start at 64,995 British pounds ($84,300).

Longbow hasn’t confirmed which markets, besides the U.K., will receive its sports cars.
