The Ford Mustang GTD and Chevrolet Corvette have a proper rivalry brewing, but don’t expect Team Chevy to rush back to the Nürburgring just to reclaim bragging rights. General Motors’ Corvette chief engineer Tony Roma says the team has no plans for a direct, tit-for-tat response to Ford’s latest lap time.
Speaking on The Drivecast, Roma explained that Chevrolet’s previous Nürburgring effort was about more than setting a quick lap. The team used its own development drivers and worked closely with engineers, tyre specialists and data analysts to demonstrate what the Corvette programme could achieve.

The result was a lap under seven minutes, making the Corvette the fastest American car around the circuit at the time. Roma said it remains an achievement the team is proud of.
Chevrolet took a different route this year, focusing on Pikes Peak instead. The historic American hill climb offered another stage to showcase the Corvette’s capabilities.

Roma hasn’t ruled out another Nürburgring attempt, but says it must have a worthwhile purpose. For now, Chevy would rather do its own thing than simply react to Ford’s latest move.
