Bentley isn’t particularly concerned about other carmakers taking inspiration from its designs. Instead, the British luxury brand intends to keep moving forward while staying true to its heritage.
Bentley design boss T. Jon Mayer acknowledged that other manufacturers look towards the marque for inspiration, particularly when designing interiors and exteriors.

“I wouldn’t say necessarily there was ‘copying’, but definitely taking heavy inspiration from certain areas,” Mayer said.
He believes this is simply part of being a design-led brand. When something fresh enters the market, others naturally build upon the idea, leaving Bentley to develop the next one.

More importantly, Mayer says future models must remain instantly recognisable as Bentleys. Designers could create something completely wild, but that would mean little if it abandoned the brand’s identity.
Traditional elements such as an endless-looking bonnet and upright stance will therefore continue influencing future models.
