Mercedes debuts new AMG GT Pro F1 safety car for Hungarian GP

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new official Formula 1 safety car for the Hungarian Grand Prix. It is based on the AMG GT Pro and will sport a special livery.

This year, Mercedes-Benz is celebrating 30 years since its first Formula 1 safety car debuted at the 1996 French Grand Prix. The new red and black livery features a ’30’ graphic in white as a tribute.

A Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series had been serving as the official F1 safety car until now. The new AMG GT Pro is based on the latest 2-door sports car from Mercedes-Benz. It looks less extreme than the old Black Series, though.

Under the hood is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that makes 612 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
