Carlos Oliviera, a Paraguayan motorsport driver, has passed away after his Porsche 911 GT3 RS crashed during a track day.
The 72-year-old was competing in what appeared to be a time attack challenge at the Ruben Dumot racetrack in Capiata. Videos shared on social media show the GT3 RS veering off the racetrack before crashing into a concrete barrier.
Soon after the accident, the session was red-flagged, and emergency crews rushed to the stricken car. However, despite their best efforts, Oliviera succumbed to his injuries.
Carlos Oliviera was one of Paraguay’s most promising motorsport talents. He was known for his exceptional driving skills and competitive spirit.
The recent accident has raised concerns over driver safety at racetracks in the country. Had there been a tire barrier before the concrete wall, it would have helped soften the impact.
