Today was a day Whoopi Goldberg was probably happy to miss as her fellow co-hosts on The View discussed an odd new sex trend called “hotwifing.”
On this morning’s episode of the hit daytime talk show, co-host Joy Behar told the audience about the new trend, which has husbands teaming up with an adult website called Wifey so they can pay professional porn stars to have sex with their wives while they observe.
“People are so nuts,” Behar said, explaining that couples doing this claim it “helps build trust and communication” within their marriages. She asked, “Really? Who thought this was a good idea other than a divorce attorney?”
Alyssa Farah Griffin was just as horrified as she told the panel, “I’m sorry, these couples need therapy, not this. Also, all I thought were STDs when I heard that. That sounds like a terrible idea.”
She added, “That’s not a kink. That’s too far.”
Sunny Hostin, who has been open about growing up in a strict Catholic household, offered some different advice to couples looking to save their relationships.
“I don’t know if they need therapy. They freaking need God in their marriages,” she asserted. “They need to find Jesus! They need something else. This is not it.”
Meanwhile, Sara Haines couldn’t understand why the word “wife” was used in the trend’s title.
“Why be reminded you’re married in those moments?” she wondered, to which Hostin fired back, “Because you need God!”
Hostin even quoted the late and great Dr. Ruth Westheimer, a famed sex therapist and talk show host who died in July 2024 at the age of 96.
“Dr. Ruth said that when you invite a third person into your marriage, into your relationship, it’s over,” she reminded the audience.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
