Modena Automobili has revealed the Project MA-01 restomod – a Maserati Biturbo Shamal with modern internals and a whole lot of power.
The MA-01 is based on an original Shamal chassis. It also retains the boxy exterior, albeit with subtle upgrades, including LED lighting, a carbon fibre body kit, wider wheel arches, and bigger wheels. The rear fascia has been heavily revised and now features an integrated spoiler and quad exhausts.
Under the hood is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 from a modern Maserati Ghibli. The engine has been worked upon so that it now produces over 500 hp, which is sent to the rear axle via a ZF 8-speed automatic.
Besides the 18-inch retro-style wheels, the Shamal restomod is also fitted with bigger brakes sourced from Brembo. It gets 13.5-inch rotors at the front and 13-inch units at the back.
You can now order this European icon from the 1980s for approximately $638,000, before taxes. The company plans to build only 33 units, and the first cars are expected to be delivered in 8-10 months.
