Bentley to replace its mighty W12 with a V8 plug-in hybrid

Earlier this week, Bentley showcased the limited-edition Batur Convertible. It also marks the end of the road for the brand’s mighty W12 engine. As with most high-performance cars these days, Bentley is replacing its 6.0-liter W12 with a V8 plug-in hybrid.

The new Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain is said to be the most powerful engine ever to power a Bentley. The company claims that the new engine will deliver 740 hp, which is 90 hp more than the outgoing W12. Torque will be in the four figures, which means at least 1000 Nm or about 738 lb-ft.

Bentley has also revealed that the new V8 plug-in hybrid will offer 50 miles of pure electric range. That being said, we don’t know the exact specifications of the battery pack yet.

Having phased out the W12 engine, Bentley will soon offer its next-gen V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain in the Continental, Flying Spur and the Bentayga SUV.
