Porsche Sonderwunsch is the brand’s exclusive customisation division. Their official website even says, “You dream it. We built it.” So, when a customer approached them with an idea of a street-legal Slant Nose tribute to the 1978 ‘Moby Dick’, they happily obliged.
The result is the new Flachbau RS based on a 911 GT2 RS (991.2). It was recently showcased at Monterey Car Week.
The Flachbau RS was designed by retired Porsche designer Grant Larson, who created the 2018 Porsche 935 track car. The new Slant Nose features slim horizontal LED headlights instead of the usual round ones and LED DRLs integrated into the GT2 RS’ signature intakes on the bumper.
The aero package has been reworked and includes dual canards, a splitter, NACA ducts on the hood and a massive wing at the back, inspired by the 911 GT3 R Rennsport. Porsche says these modifications help generate 1,221 lbs of downforce at 211 mph.
While the interior looks fairly standard, Porsche has stripped out the touchscreen, carpets and sound insulation to reduce weight. The leather seats have been replaced with carbon fibre buckets. The result is a car that weighs 70 lbs less than the donor 911 GT2 RS.
Powering the Flachbau RS is the stock 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-6 engine that makes 69 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, and a 7-speed PDK transmission sends power to the rear wheels.
