It’s neither a bird, nor a plane, nor Superman—it’s the new Supergirl movie that is soaring onto digital platforms to buy and rent, starting tomorrow.
Directed by Craig Gillepsie (known for films like Lars and the Real Girl, I Tonya, Cruellla), with a screenplay written by Ana Nogueira, this new Supergirl movie is the next entry in this new phase of the DC Extended Universe, following the 2025 Superman movie starring David Corenswet. Gritty realism is out, and brightly-lit humor is in!
Milly Alcock stars in the Supergirl movie as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, who turns 23 and celebrates her big day by flying around the galaxy with her beloved dog Krypto. But when she meets a fellow young woman named Ruthye Marye Knoll (played by Eve Ridley), she gets caught up in a quest for revenge.
Also starring Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa, Supergirl earned a disappointing $124.4 million at the worldwide box office, failing to earn back its estimated $170 million production budget. But perhaps more people will pay to watch the film now that it’s coming to digital.

Supergirl will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms on Tuesday, July 28 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on July 27). You’ll be able to buy and rent digitally on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie will cost $24.99 to buy, and $19.99 to rent. If you rent the movie, you’ll have 48 hours to view after hitting “play.”
The Supergirl movie will also release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on September 8, 2026. Both the digital and physical releases of the Supergirl movie will come with over 90 minutes of bonus features, including making-of featurettes, deleted scenes, and an animated short about Krypto. (Bonus content may vary depending on which retailer you use to purchase the film.)
Supergirl is not yet available on a subscription-based streaming service, but we do expect to see the Supergirl 2026 movie streaming on HBO Max, free to HBO Max subscribers eventually, because Supergirl is a Warner Bros. movie, and HBO Max is the streamer owned by Warner Bros.

You might see Supergirl streaming free (to subscribers) on HBO Max around early September 2026.
All the new WB theatrical movies end up streaming on HBO Max, though the wait period has varied by title. Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, for example, was released on digital about one month after opening in theaters, and began streaming on HBO Max about two-and-a-half months after it was released in theaters. If Supergirl follows a similar release pattern, you may see Supergirl 2026 streaming on HBO Max around early September 2026, presumably after the DVD release date on September 8.
But that’s pure speculation. The Warner Bros. home releases have varied by title. In the meantime, you can always watch the Supergirl 2026 movie by buying or renting the movie online.
