Mercedes-AMG boss Michael Schiebe had recently confirmed that new inline 6-cylinder models would be joining the lineup as the brand realigns its product strategy. Now, the first new 6-cylinder AMG has just been revealed in the form of the 2027 GLC 53.
The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 is powered by a revised M256M inline 6-cylinder engine that delivers 443 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, peaking at 472 lb-ft with the overboost function. The higher levels of torque have been achieved by employing a different cylinder head and intake camshaft. It also gets a larger intake, a new intercooler and a redesigned exhaust system.

The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels via an electronic limited-slip differential. Mercedes claims that the new GLC 53 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 167 mph.
The new AMG GLC 53 will be available in two body styles – standard and coupe. Being the entry-level AMG model, it doesn’t get the full sporty exterior treatment. However, it does look more muscular than the standard version.
