2026 Ferrari Roma successor spied for first time

  • New coupe will likely be a heavy update rather than complete redesign
  • Powertrain may incorporate hybrid technology

Engineers from Ferrari have been spotted testing what’s likely to be the successor to the Roma coupe.

The prototype is heavily camouflaged but the shape is similar to the Roma. There are some visible differences though, like the design of the front splitter and the exposed parts of the rear fascia.

It also looks like the design of the door and rocker panels are different, though this may be due to the camouflage gear.

Ferrari in August said the Roma was approaching the end of its lifecycle, so seeing the successor testing in public view isn’t a huge surprise.

Ferrari also typically updates or redesigns its models every five years. The Roma entered production in 2020 as the first model based on a new front-midship platform that is shared with the Purosangue and 12Cilindri.

As the Roma was a ground-up design unrelated to its predecessor, the Portofino, the Roma successor will most likely be an update, referred to by the automaker as a Modificata. This may explain why the successor’s shape looks so similar to the Roma.

Ferrari hasn’t provided any information on a model to replace the Roma, but given the automaker’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2030, there’s a good chance some hybrid technology will be introduced. Right now it isn’t clear whether the gas engine making up any hybrid powertrain will be a twin-turbocharged V-6, like in the 296 and recently launched F80, or a twin-turbocharged V-8β€”an engine that in the Roma delivers 612 hp.

The Roma successor should debut in late 2025 or early the following year. Before it arrives, Ferrari will launch an SF90 successor, which is also out testing ahead of a debut sometime in 2025. The automaker is also working on its first electric vehicle, which has also been spotted testing ahead of a debut next year.
