The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has become the fastest car ever built by a US-based automaker. The new mid-engined ‘Vette achieved a top speed of 233 mph with GM President Mark Reuss at the wheel.

The high-speed run was conducted at the High-Speed Oval Track at ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg in Germany.

The high-speed record was set by a ZR1 coupe, equipped with the standard chassis and aero package. It had the standard spoiler, carbon fibre ground effects and aluminium wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

The Corvette ZR1 has a special Top Speed Mode, which adjusts the chassis control systems for maximum speed. The tests showed that the car could do 233 mph with the engine spinning at the redline in 6th gear. It’s worth noting that an engineer was in the passenger seat during the top-speed run.

The new ZR1 is the most powerful Corvette ever built. It is powered by an LT7 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 featuring a flat-plane crankshaft. It generates 1064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque and revs to 8000 rpm.
